Roots, Rock, Run 5k returns

On May 30th, the morning of the Roots Picnic, we will host our annual R3 race. SuperCamp Application for girls 1st-5th grade is now open (Summer 2019)

The same camp that trained SuperGirl Marley Dias is now accepting applicants. Applications for our leadership development program are open. If you live in the City of Philadelphia and Essex County, New Jersey, you are eligible to apply for our SuperGirlsSociety (SGS).  SGS is a family-based yearlong leadership development program that works with girls of African descent and their caregiving circle. SuperCamp Showcase

This year’s SuperCamp theme is MOBILIZATION.   SuperGirls learned about four key areas of mobilization for people of African descent: the African experience on the continent as well as the Abolitionist, Voting Rights/Suffrage, the Civil Rights and Black Lives Matter movement in the US. 5th Annual R3: Roots, Rock Run 5k Race

GrassROOTS Community Foundation’s fifth annual R3: Roots, Rock Run 5k race was held on Saturday, June 3rd. Nearly 400 women, men, and children came out to the Anna L. Lingelbach School in Germantown to enjoy the interactive and fun morning of family wellness activities. The event provided something for everyone including free giveaways, music, and medals. After months of reviewing and collecting books, we are happy to report that the resource guide now has 1000 independent titles of black girl books. As of January 2017, the campaign has collected 9000 books where black girls are the main characters-that equals 1535 distinct books. In your role as Physical Health Wellness Coach will be responsible for facilitating health and wellness workshops and for helping youth achieve the highest level of wellness. You will support girls in eating well by increasing their intake of food and vegetables and reducing their intake of excessive artificial sugar and processed foods; you will also participate and encourage their ongoing and daily movement and physical activity. Economics of Health Coach will be responsible for facilitating health and wellness workshops and for helping youth achieve the highest level of wellness. More specifically, the coach will inform and support girls’ understanding of the key social and environmental factors that influence their wellbeing, introduce them with the interconnections between the economic environment and their health behavior and status.
