As of January 2017, the campaign has collected 9000 books where black girls are the main characters-that equals 1535 distinct books. We are not done. This year GrassROOTS collaborated with the City of Newark for a two-day turkey giveaway providing 6,000 turkeys, 1000 pumpkins and 2300 organic apples for Newark residents. A total of 50 adult and 18 youth volunteers lend their support to this effort.
