GiveThanks Save the Date
The pandemic has exacerbated food insecurity in America. One in nine Americans are food insecure. In 2018, more than 38 million people are lived in poverty in America. Four a family of four, that means earning just $25,000 per year. Additionally, in September more than 800,000 new claims for unemployment insurance. These numbers demonstrate the high level of distress that is pervasive among the society.
For the past ten years, GrassROOTS has responded to food insecurity in our communities through our annual #TurkeyChallenge and #GiveThanks events. This year is no different. Though, we will not be hosting an annual Give Thanks Cocktail Gala, we will continue to serve our communities in Southeast Atlanta, Newark and The Oranges of New Jersey. We are combining our efforts to raise $25,000 to support families who are experiencing hardship. This year we are partnering with Uzima Dance Fitness and St. Matthew AME Church. On November 21st, we will be providing fresh fruit and vegetables along with turkeys to families.
Day of Giving is November 21st from 10:00-2:00pm at
St. Matthew AME, 336 Oakwood Ave, Orange, NJ 07050
