Green Ribbon Week 2022
Join the GrassROOTS SuperGirls’ public health initiative #Green Ribbon Week – a campaign to promote positive mental health of youth.
#GreenRibbonWeek is September 19th-23rd
The campaign goals are:
- Educate youth about ways to maintain good mental health practices.
- Encourage adults to engage in practices that facilitate dialogue with youth.
- Make conversations about mental health as common as conversations about physical health.
Daily Roll-Out (click each day to view)
- SIGN partner agreement and TAKE the PLEDGE
- Sign the PLEDGE, which can be found at the bottom of this post
- Your name and the name of the organization will be posted on our website
- Inform everyone in your organization/school/town of the commitment to support #GreenRibbonWeek. Send a memo, make an announcement or share the press release.
- Post Green Ribbon Week logo on social media emphasizing the importance of preventative mental health practices for youth.
- Send a newsletter, announcement or the press release to your partners and ask them to TAKE the PLEDGE
- Take the time to read about youth mental health (see resources in social media toolkit)
- Plan your green outfits for the week, especially for SOLIDARITY DAY: Wednesday, September 21st
- Post on social media
- “I am looking forward to #GreenRibbonWeek.
- ADULT: “I took the Green Ribbon Week PLEDGE to LISTEN without interruption. Take the pledge with me”
- YOUTH: “I took the Green Ribbon Week PLEDGE to Breathe and Talk It out. Take the pledge with me”
- Use tweets and graphics from the social media toolkit
- “I am looking forward to #GreenRibbonWeek.
- Send texts to your family, friends and colleagues about #GreenRibbonWeek, ask them to TAKE the PLEDGE
- Take the time to read about youth mental health (see resources in social media toolkit)
- Practice your active listening skills (see Parent Like It Matters)
- Plan the activities you will do to support #GreenRibbonWeek
- Plan your green outfits for the week, especially for SOLIDARITY DAY: Wednesday, September 21st
- Wear Green
- OPT OUTSIDE: Spend at least 20 minutes outdoors.
- Post on social media; use hashtag #GreenRibbonWeek and tag @grassrootsfound
- DAY OF SOLIDARITY
- Take a group picture. Physically distance for safety.
- Join GCF for IG live at 6:00pm @grassrootsfound
- Wear Green
- Practice one or more of the positive mental health practices
- TALK IT OUT: have a conversation with a young person without interruption. Listen attentively and say nothing for at least 60 seconds.
- ADULTS: Ask a youth in your life how you can be a better listener.
- How long can you go without interrupting?
- Practice one or more of the positive mental health practices
- Have dinner, lunch or tea with a young person or with young people
- YOUTH: Share with an adult how they can better support your mental health.
- Give specific examples.
- Share your sidewalk art or creative outfits
- Post on social media; use hashtag #GreenRibbonWeek and tag @grassrootsfound
- Wear Green
- REST:
- YOUTH: Get at least 9-10 hours of sleep
- ADULTS: Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep
- Practice one or more of the positive mental health practices
- Share your art or creative outfits
- Write a reflective social post of what this week has meant to you
- Post on social media; use hashtag #GreenRibbonWeek and tag @grassrootsfound
For ADULTS:
I take the pledge to LISTEN to the young people in my life for at least 1 minute each day and I will not interrupt.
I am committed to making sure that I LISTEN TO LEARN and LEARN TO LISTEN.
For YOUTH:
I take the pledge to BREATHE.
For me, I know that everything is going to be OK as long as I can BREATHE.
I am committed each day to spending at least 1 minute to inhale good and positive thoughts and exhale all my stress.

Take the pledge and adopt Green Ribbon Week
As a #GreenRibbonWeek partner, I agree to:
- Rally my company, partners, friends and family to learn about youth mental wellness.
- Wear GREEN each day from September 19-23 in solidarity of positive youth mental health.
- Support positive youth mental health by sharing strategies and action steps that help youth feel heard.
- LISTEN actively to young people as they share their feelings for at least two uninterrupted minutes. Ensure the young person feels heard before offering any advice.
- Post photos on social media outlets (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and others) and tag both:
- @grassrootsfound
- #GreenRibbonWeek
- Serve as ambassadors of health and wellness through daily activities.
- Educate, inform, uplift, support and embolden young people with the information you share.
- Engage in at least one strategy daily that promotes mental wellness. See suggested actions at www.grassrootscommunityfoundation.org.
