Help Us Build Back Family Homes for victims of Hurricane Melissa

As the year begins, GrassROOTS has set a core priority: ensuring the safety of families still recovering from Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.

Through our Disaster Relief Fund, we are starting with six families in the Flankers, St. James community, primarily single-parent households, who are living in damaged or unsafe homes. GrassROOTS has been working in this community for years.

These six households include 14 children, one infant under one year old, and one child expected, with families displaced, living in overcrowded or damaged housing following Hurricane Melissa.

We want to ensure that families are safe before the next hurricane season.

This moment is URGENT!

Our goal is to complete critical housing repairs  as soon as possible, including roofs, doors, windows, and essential structural materials—so families can begin the year safe, stable, and able to move forward.

We are inviting supporters to invest any amount that can build or significantly contribute to a roof, install doors or windows, or provide the materials needed to make a home secure and livable.

Gifts can be pooled. Many supporters are choosing to:

  • Give collectively with friends or family
  • Partner with faith groups, workplaces, or organizations
  • Co-sponsor a specific repair, such as a roof or set of windows

Giving Options (Every Gift Strengthens a Home)

  • $50 — Emergency Supplies (Provides tarps, nails, tools, and basic materials for immediate repairs)
  • $100 — Weather Protection (Helps secure doors and windows to keep families safe)
  • $250 — Repair Support (Contributes essential materials for structural fixes or partial repairs)
  • $500 — Strengthen a Structure (Supports framing, partial roof repairs, or critical building materials)
  • $1,000 — Protect a Family (Helps complete a significant repair or covers materials for a key area of a home)
  • $2,000 — Build Stability (Complete a room with a roof, doors, windows, or core materials)
  • $5,000 — Restore a Household (Covers multiple repairs needed to make a home entirely safe and livable)
  • $10,000 — Rebuild a Home

Supports comprehensive reconstruction for a family with severe damage.

Each contribution is allocated to a specific household or repair category, and donors receive updates as work is completed.

Housing is the foundation of safety, education, and livelihood. Completing these repairs by January 31st ensures families begin the year protected—not waiting for the next storm.

Thank you for standing with our families at this critical moment.
