Civics in Color is an innovative four-day educational series designed to empower racialized and minoritized individuals by providing a comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local government functions.

This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and influence political processes, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement and advocacy.

Racialized and minoritized people have historically faced systemic barriers to political participation. Despite progress, these barriers persist, limiting the civic engagement of these communities. Civics in Color addresses this issue by focusing on people of color, women, and those with intersectional identities, fostering their understanding of civics and inspiring them to become knowledgeable, active participants in their communities.

The course covers critical topics such as governmental structure, voting rights, electoral processes, and advocacy, ensuring participants are well-prepared to make their voices heard.

Objectives

  1. Educate: Provide a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local government structures and functions.
  2. Civic Engagement: Encourage active participation in electoral and civic processes.
  3. Advocacy Skills: Develop skills to overcome barriers to political engagement and advocacy.
  4. Empowerment: Empower racialized and minoritized populations to leverage their personal and political power within their communities.
